You're welcome. But who are you and what are you doing?

We are Gilles and Anna, and we are trying to ride around the world. Four continents, two people and four horses. We're starting with South America, hoping to make it to Venezuela. Then, if all is well with the horses, finances, etc. etc. we're going to try and make it all the way back to Belgium via the US, Russia, Central Asia, and Eastern Europe. 

On December 27th, 2012, we left our base in Chile. Nearly a year later, and having taken a few weeks off to help MSF in the Philippines after typhoon Yolanda, we're now in Brazil, having crossed Argentina and Bolivia.

It sounds awfully long. Why would you do that?

We want to raise awareness and funds for Médecins Sans Frontières, for whom we have worked for nine years. In that time, we have helped them to provide lifesaving medical treatment to hundreds of thousands of people in some of the most remote and difficult places in the world.

Every day, in hundreds of places around the world, MSF is providing essential medical care to those who need it most. That work is made possible by the independence of the organisation and the money that funds it - keeping hospitals going in Afghanistan, Libya, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Yemen, and Somalia just isn´t an option without private sources of funding.

By making our trip, by writing updates, by sending people postcards from our different destinations, we want to get people talking about it MSF's work. We also want to raise money for MSF to keep these great projects going.

 

OK, I'm sold. What do I do?

You can sponsor us in one of two ways: by distance covered, or by making a one-off donation that suits you.

1. £0.01 per kilometre in total or by country : after every border, we'll calculate and communicate the number of kilometres travelled between the entry and exit of that country. We'll update the itinerary as we go.

2. Any donations, big or small, will contribute towards MSF's work around the world.

 

The money you donate will go directly to MSF and won't subsidise our trip in any way.
