Story

Welcome to The Trinity Walk - in this case the trinity being confectionery (Martyn Westbury, Mars), fragrance (Jan Kristiansen-Binder, Coty) and liquor (Peter Ayling, Tattinger). This Trinity will be undertaking a 3,5 mile walk in Cardiff on Sunday 12 December 2010. The difference however, is that we will be doing this four-legged, quite some challenge I'm sure you will agree**. On this day, Macmillan Cancer Support will be hosting a walk of their own and we wanted to lend our support for this very worthwhile charity, that benefits many people within the duty free industry.

Sadly, our industry knows of too many people affected by cancer, including most recently, Martin Moodie from the Moodie Report. Martin has tirelessly worked for others on charitable matters, and the three of us wanted to follow his lead and do something to support people affected by cancer - statistically 1 in 3 of us all will have a cancer diagnosis at some point in our lives.

If you look at the statistics below, you will see how important it is for us to support Macmillan and help with the great work that they do. Macmillan Cancer Support is THE charity that is there from the very point of diagnosis, and all through a person's cancer journey. They provide practical, medical, emotional and financial support and rely on the generosity of their supporters for 99% of their income. The following statistics hopefully explain why we are determined to make a difference:

Two million people are living with or beyond cancer in the UK

Macmillan Cancer Support reaches more than one in two people living with cancer

Two million people in the UK today have had a cancer diagnosis. If this number continues to rise by 3% a year, this could see nearly four million people living with cancer by 2030.

300,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with cancer every year

Macmillan helped 27,000 people with patient grants totalling £9M, the patient grants help ease the financial hardship cancer can bring. The grants are used to pay for one-off items such as specialist equipment, clothing and increased fuel bills.

How can you help? Please make a donation to this particular event. In addition to the four-legged walk, we also plan to carry a flag showing the companies within duty free who are supporting this initiative. We are looking for £500 (more if you are able) to have your company logo or brand within this flag, and obviously individuals can make donations as they are able. The Trinity will also wear t -shirts which will have the sponsor's brands on the front, and the names of every individual who has supported us on the back of the t shirts.

Please be as generous as possible, and help us in raising money for this very worthwhile charity - who knows who may need their support next.

Martyn, Jan & Peter

** Peter as some of you will know has had both of his knees replaced this year (April & August) so in the event he is not recovered Jan & I will be 3 legged and Peter walk separately.
