Mike Carter is attempting his first marathon this year at the Melbourne Marathon on 9th October 2011.

"I am taking part in this race in memory of a great friend and fellow runner, Andy Shaw who passed away suddenly in June at the far too young age of 44. His wonderful wife, Rachel has set up The Andy Shaw Foundation, which will raise much needed funds primarily for Christie's and The HoneyRose Foundation. Therefore I am asking you if you could please sponsor me to complete the huge challenge of the Marathon and in doing so help these great causes in Andy's memory."

I can't express how overwhelmed I am for Mike to dedicate his marathon to Andy, It is such an amazing thing to do. Please support Mike to complete his marathon and help raise money in Andy's name XX.

The Christie is the largest cancer centre in Europe, treating more than 40,000 patients a year. It was the first UK centre to be officially accredited as a comprehensive cancer centre. It is based in Manchester and serves a populatio of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester & Cheshire, but as a national specialist around 25% of patients are referred from other parts of the country. Http://www.christie.nhs.uk

The HoneyRose foundation is a registered charty dedictaed to raising money and organising special days for terminally ill people 40 years and above. Http://www.honeyrosefoundation.co.uk

Thanks for taking the time to visit this page.

Andy sadly died on 19 June 2011 at the far too young age of 44.  He leaves wife Rachel and children Alex (10), Kerry (14) and Rebecca (19) and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

This page has been created to allow his family, friends and colleagues to make a donation in memory of Andy.  The money raised will be placed into the Andy Shaw Foundation (administered by his widow Rachel) which will distribute the money. The current intention is that the primary beneficiary charities will be The Christie and The Honey Rose Foundation.

No targets have been set for the Foundation, please just give whatever you think appropriate.

Please remember the gift aid declaration – it really does make a difference.
