Paul and our very good friend and neighbour Alison turned the grand age of 50 in 2010 and to celebrate we decided to book a trip of a lifetime to the ancient Inca city of Machu Picchu in Peru. We were all very excited!
Alison was given the all clear from ovarian cancer some 5 years ago. Last year and just after the trip was booked, Alison was given the devastating news that the cancer had returned. We remained determined to continue with the holiday and postponed the trip until May 2011.
Alison has undergone a tough 12 months of treatment and is still battling to beat this cruel disease. She has been given the opportunity of further chemotherapy and we are all hoping and praying for its success.
Alison cannot make the trip and both Alison and her husband So Him have made the decision to transfer the holiday to two of thier three wonderful children - Matt and Adam. A typically generous and thoughtful act by a wonderfully kind and loving couple.
Making the decision to go without Alison and So Him has not been easy. But knowing that whilst we are climbing the ancient ruins of the Inca Trail, we are raising funds or at least awareness of the disease will give us the inspiration to get to that incredible place - Machu Picchu!
