Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

When we heard (from friends at church) about 72 orphans in Uganda, who are sleeping with ripped mosquito nets, we were worried for their safely. A mosquito net only copsts £5. We can each afford to buy one each from our pocket money over Easter, but we want to buy more.

The charity that runs the home also struggles to feed the children and school provisions are in short supply too. We want to help as much as we can. We have plenty of pens, books and computers to help us learn (and play); whereas these children barely have more than a few basics. So thats where we got the idea to have a read-athon over the Easter holidays; appreciating the wonderful resource we take for granted.

Adam (8), a bookworm. I will read at least 1/2 hour each day from my favourite authors; Charlie Higson (young James Bond), Anthony Horowitz (another teen spy, this time MI6), and The Horse Whisperer (recently purchased from the school book sale).

Matthew (6), newly graduated from Chip and Biff books. I will read at least one chapter each day, from books such as Beast Quest, Astrosaurs or Dinosaur Cove.

Daniel (4), who knows about half of the letters of the alphabet by sight. I will sound out at least one word on each page, every day, from Apple Tree Farm books, The very hungry caterpillar,The Grufffalo and other favourite picture books (read together with a grown-up).

Our Easter read-athon will run from Friday 30th March until Sunday 15th April; that's 17 days. If you wanted to sponsor each of us 10p per day, that would be about £5; just enough for a mosquito net! But we'd love any size sponsorship, to reach our target of £100 each.

Thank-you.

Love from Adam, Matthew and Daniel May, as well as the children of the Tumaimi children's home
