My grandfather died of cancer when my mother was a teenager.  I never met him and his legacy has not been shared in the same way my paternal grandfather will live on in me.  My grandmother also died when I was a very small child from this terrible disease and left my mother an orphan at such a young age - a word we only tend to associate with adults but I think applies at all ages.  No-one should feel alone in this world but this disease has touched many of us.  We don't expect it to, we always think it will happen to other people, we hear the statistics and know we shouldn't smoke or abuse our bodies but you never think it will happen to you, and then it does.

Recently a friend of mine received some news that shocked me into a reality that this is not a disease limited to the elderly and is not something that only happens to other people you vaguely know.  I realised the more I thought about it that actually I know far too many people who have fought this disease.  Some have survived and some have not been so lucky.  Now is the time for my husband and I to start to do something, to help stop this terrible disease and help those who do so much to fight for new ways of curing and caring.  I hope that you read this and feel inspired to join in and help too or perhaps support me with a small donation...  every penny counts and every pound is huge so I will be grateful for each one.

Thank you.
