Some of our dynamic, young team felt sufficiently un-challenged physically by a life behind a desk, a phone and a PC to seek out something that would require a serious effort to get fit and test them mentally and physically with a gruelling ordeal at the end...hence our entry to this year’s 9 Lakes in 9 hours Challenge.

Our team of 11 optimists must attempt to complete 9 lakes in 9 hours using bikes to get to Helvellyn, feet to get over it and canoes to go around Ullswater on the other side.

We will continue to fundraise for our local charity Small Steps children’s charity. Small Steps operates out of a school in Putney and helps parents to help their own children who have cerebral palsy or other forms of motor and sensory impairment.

Children attend a group session at Small Steps once per week with a parent or carer. There are up to five children per group who are all working on similar skills. A team of teachers, conductors and physiotherapists lead the parent/child team through a structured programme designed to help each child achieve the next developmental steps. The approach is based on principles of conductive education and primarily focuses on learning new physical skills, but also encompasses social skills, communication skills, sensory skills and educational learning.
