London to Paris · 17 July 2013

Our aim is to help patients and staff by purchasing equipment, funding research and improving the hospital's environment. We've pledged to raise money to build a new Brachytherapy Treatment Unit. This will keep the Centre at the leading edge of world-class cancer and haematological treatments.

Story

My good mate Ali Cole walked from John O’Groats to LandsEnd (I joined him for part of the way) to raise money for the Bristol Oncology Centre.  Having raised nearly £70,000 it has been possible to purchase a Phantom Machine for the Centre and training and commissioning of the machine is underway. However, they are £8000 short from the total required.

The original intention was for the Phantom machine to be used in conjunction with the scanner at the Centre which would allow for a speedier and more accurate delivery of radiation treatment to patients.  This is still the case but as a consequence of the training that is on-going, they have now realised that the Phantom machine will enable the Centre to treat a type of lung cancer that was previously untreatable in the South West.

Our fundraising for Friends of Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre will assist in bridging the gap for the purchase of this amazing machine which will help many people in the South West.

Your support of our bike ride from London to Paris by digging deep with your donation would be hugely appreciated.
