The driving forces behind Graeme Wilson Joiners and Murdoch Smith Construction thought it would be a great idea to sign up to this year’s Rust 2 Rome £500 Banger Rally to raise money for a couple of charities close to their hearts.  After years of saying they would undertake a banger rally, it was over a Christmas drink Graeme Wilson and Derek McIntyre finally took the plunge and signed up.

Leaving on the 5th June from Edinburgh, the rally entails driving 4,500 miles to Rome, the long way round (and hopefully back again) in a car that is worth no more than £500 over some of Europe’s most challenging and spectacular roads.   What could be more of a challenge for the duo is having to put up with one another in a confined space over this distance!

Calling themselves The Roamin’ Builders, the team have acquired a 15 year old Peugeot 406 with 165,000 miles on the clock which they are currently preparing for the rally and are looking for offers of sponsorship from their valued suppliers.  In addition to this, it is the plan to get the local press involved for a bit of publicity.  Any donations, no matter how small or large would be gratefully received to assist the duo in raising as much as possible for their chosen charities.

 The charities to benefit from the proceeds are the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society and Reach (The Association for Children with Upper Limb
Deficiency).  Both charities have a close personal connection with the duo.  Derek’s wife sadly lost her sister to MS at the age of 34 after a long battle with the illness and their work to improve treatments and help people with MS is invaluable.  Many of you who know Graeme will know that he lost the lower part of his right arm in a tragic accident many years ago, however, thanks to his prosthetic limb, amazingly he has still been to pursue his career as a joiner (and also beat Derek at golf!).  The work that these charities do make a huge difference to people’s lives and your support is greatly appreciated.
