Having both become experts at avoiding PE at school it seems mad that we are both voluntarily running this half marathon, which will be the first race that either of us has ever run. Our Year 7 selves would be shocked, appalled and horrified. Liz has taken the challenge in her stride - small matters like having dislocated her knee about a year ago seem like trifling matters now that she's hitting long distances in her training runs. Aliye has recovered her self-esteem from, aged 12, a PE teacher telling her that she ought to be good at shot put because she had "a lot to put behind it".
