Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

WELL WE DID IT!!  Thanks to all who sponsored me. It really was an emotional roller coaster, much as i love cycling it was still very hard at times. Other times of course i wouldn't have been anywhere else - that lovely feeling of the wind on your face and that sense of freedom. Cornwall was pretty but the hills were probably harder than any in Scotland - short but steep. I am most grateful to Ruairidh for all his planning and preparation which made the trip all that more enjoyable than it could have been. Thanks to Lorna for driving out to meet us on what turned out to be a pretty horrible, wet night. Thanks to Siobhan,Ian, Jessica and Ailish for a warm shower and nice food at their house and particular thanks to Jessica for kindly giving up her bed for the night! We were pretty lucky with the weather and only had about 3 days of rain the whole time. Of course one of the worst days was the last one with howling wind and horizontal rain which of course meant that the official John o' Groats sign was gone for the day when we finally arrived!?! Luckily Ruairidh has managed to 'fix' us up a photo!

Finally "would i do it all again?"   The answer is a definite "no" but maybe something similar, somewhere hotter might be nice!?!

Thanks everyone!  Sheina

I have been keen on cycling since I got my first new bike at age 13. I have cycled many miles in Scotland and abroad, both on my own and with Ruairidh. I have never been brave enough to try Lands End to John O Groats so I decided this was the year. We have been out in all weathers (as you can see) testing our legs out.

I was diagnosed with MS in 2003 but didn't tell anyone as it didn't really show and probably I didn't want to admit it (even to myself). Like many others with this condition I was experiencing symptoms long before that. Fortunately  I have kept pretty well for most of that time and indeed have never had to give up cycling. More recently things have not been so good and indeed tortoise might well be a good description for me!

However I do hope to complete the ride and still be walking after 3 weeks. We will be cycling every day for 3 weeks with one day off per week. Our average mileage will be 50miles per day.

The MS Society offers wonderful support and assistance for many people so I will be most grateful for all your donations.

I'm just going along for the ride!

Oh, yeah, and to carry most of the stuff, and to plan the route, and to fix any mechanical problems we might have, but apart from that I'm just going along for the ride.

Also might have to crack the whip occasionally to get Sheina out of the odd tea room and back on the road!

Although we usually go cycling for three weeks at this time of year, this time is a bit different as we will be pedalling just under 1000 miles, which is twice as far as we normally go! But we should be able to get it done in time.

So feel free to chuck a few bob in the tin.
