Please sponsor us on our 45 mile cycle ride through the Surrey hills on the 12 June - it's going to be a hard slog, some of the course is the same route as the 2012 Olympic cyclists will be riding! 

We're raising funds for my mum's charity, the Al Hasan Foundation, who run a sight saving eye clinic in Najaf, southern Iraq. Set up by Haidar Al Hakim, a Royal Free ophthalmic surgeon, who escaped from the Saddam Hussein regime in Iraq as a young child in the late 1970s. Haidar returned to Iraq, Najaf with his father in 2004. They were shocked by the ophthalmic care there, which was only available in private hospitals way beyond the reach of the vast majority of the local populace.

Haidar formulated his vision for the future of Najaf, and together with his father, they founded the Al Hasan Foundation to restore sight to the young and elderly people most in need.
