Currently, we are fundraising in support of the There is Hope Refugee Band that has started in Dzaleka Refugee Camp. The band is composed of refugees from many different countries and church denominations, who have come together to record an original praise and worship album to sell in Africa and abroad. They have written all their own songs, and are currently rehearsing to record an album in June. Check out the video link to the left of the band rehearsing.
We are looking to raise money for the band to purchase their own instruments, as currently they are borrowing various instruments to practice and perform. We would like to buy a mixer, base and lead guitars, a drum set, microphones and an amplifier as well. Any donations received after May 1st, 2011 will go towards the purchase of these instruments. Would you donate in support of this project? If you would like more information about the vision of the band, email jtornga4@gmail.com.
What else does There is Hope Do?
There is Hope is a Christian charity that works with refugees in Malawi. The vision of our ministry is to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with refugees in Malawi, by bringing the word of God in one hand, and community development projects in the other.
We offer bursaries for refugees to attend college / university
We give small loans to vulnerable women to start a small business that enables them to provide for their children
We work with refugee churches especially in the area of community development projects
We train local church leaders and offer teaching seminars for furthering their knowledge of scripture and leadership principles
We support refugee arts: drumming, music, dance - you name it!
REFUGEES IN MALAWI?!?!?!
Yes. Over 11,000 people have lived in a camp in Malawi for a number of years, many coming from other refugee camps in Africa. These have fled conflict in Burundi, Rwanda, Congo and Somalia.
We opened this fundraising page for a gig in London on 24th May 2010, but you can keep giving towards our work even after the great success of our gig. For more info visit our website: www.thereishopemalawi.info
