Imagine a normal Saturday afternoon playing rugby. The sun is out, the competition is intense and you are surrounded by team mates, and more importantly friends. 18 years old. The ball is knocked on, the referee calls for a scrum;

Crouch...touch...engage....

You come round in the hospital, you can't fell your legs, anguished faces stare down at you. A consultant starts to explain the extent of your injuries as you hurriedly ask questions. Will I play again? Will I walk? Life has just dealt you a very different hand.

This unthinkable situation is something most who play rugby will never experience, but for a tragic few this does happen. In such a physically demanding game as rugby, spinal injuries do occur.

For those that have suffered such life altering injuries there is hope.The RFU Injured Players Foundation is there to support those rugby players who have suffered catastrophic trauma whilst playing the sport they love.

SO....

On the 15th July this year two keen amateur rugby players, Adam Wood and Thomas Morris are packing up their bicycles, loading their panniers and flying to Vancouver, Canada.

The two intrepid cyclists will then cycle the legendary Route 101, riding the 3500km (some 2000 miles) from Canada to Mexico along the West Coast of America, all in aid of the RFU Injured Players Foundation.

The month long trip will also include a rugby shirt relay, as the two travellers exchange shirts (and a few beers) with rugby clubs in British Columbia, Washington State, Oregon and California.

So please show your support for such a fantastic charity that genuinely makes a difference.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the RFU Injured Players Foundation and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - Adam and I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Just think, if you sponsor us just 50p for every 100 miles we cycle then £10 is going to a great cause, similarly a penny per mile means £20. However, give as much you want so please dig deep and donate now. Many thanks for your support.

Congratulations on finishing your mammoth bike ride! Take care in all you do and good luck as a medic. Marion and Richard Donation by Marion Daniels on 22/10/11
