Centrepoint is the UK’s leading charity for homeless young people. It provides housing and support for over 1,200 16-25 year olds every year, helping them into work and a home of their own.
On September 12th 2009 we will be embarking upon a 1,000km+ bike ride taking us through 4 countries over 2 weeks.
Whilst driven by an insatiable sense of adventure we are also really proud to be doing this to raise money for Centrepoint, a charity which works with homeless people, giving them support and training to help turn their lives around.
Our trip will begin from one of the Centrepoint buildings in London, with day one consisting of a demanding 124km ride to Dover where we'll jump on a ferry to France. Over the course of the next two weeks we will ride through a host of notable European cities including Gent, Bruges, Brussels, Rotterdam and Amsterdam, It's also hugely likely we'll end up in some unpronouncable Belgian Hamlet in the arse end of nowhere as we're planning the route ourselves. Upon our return (if we find out way back from said Belgian Hamlet) we will be cycling straight to 'The Ship' pub in Wandsworth where we'll be delighted to let you all buy us drinks.
All the costs of the bike ride will come out of our own pockets and so each and every penny you donate is going straight to where it is needed most, Centrepoint. Our target of £5,000 will sponsor over 30 rooms for young homeless people for the duration of a year. These rooms comprise a bed, shower and kitchenette and provide a secure refuge for people who have been sleeping on the streets. While staying in the room the young person will recieve all the support they need to rebuild their life. Counselling to deal with their problems, career advice to help them into education or a job and basic life skills such as how to cook, budget and pay bills. So, when they leave Centrepoint they are ready to live independently.
We hope you agree that what Centrepoint are doing is really worthwhile, and with your help we want be able to assist them in continuing to having such a positive, life-changing effect on the lives of young homeless people.
Thank you all in advance for your kind donations!
