Story

On the 7th June 2006 I gave birth to my beautiful son, Preston. He was a one in a million, the most precious gift. Preston was born without a small bowel, the true extent of his condition discovered on his second day here with me, after surgery confirmed my worst fears. I was one of the lucky ones..... Preston was with me for two whole days packed full of cuddles, his smell, feeling him breathe. Thousands of parents do not get to experience these most basic of things with their newborns. Preston passed away peacefully in the only place I wanted him to be. In my arms. Thousands of women each year suffer from stillborn births, and neonatal deaths. An experience no family should have to encounter. As a mother your body is supposed to carry and deliver new life. When this doesn't happen, it is the most unnatural thing to comprehend. In what can seem like the blackest moments, support and experience from charities such as sands are not only invaluable but truly life saving. On the 24th June 2016, myself, Becky Hurcombe and Laura Green will be completing the national three peaks challenge within 24 hours in memory of Preston, to celebrate what would of been Prestons 10th Birthday, fundraising for sands. We will be Navigating and completing the three highest peaks in Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike) and Wales (Snowden) within 24 hours. This timescale also includes the driving between the mountains. This will certainly be a challenge, the most any of us do is a walk in the woods with the pooch..... But we are more than looking forward to training and pushing ourselves forward in order to raise funds for this wonderful chairity and for a little boy who changed my life forever. Thank you for taking the time to read, Kelly
