Story

My name is Matt, and I want to thank you for reading this.

In September 2011 I moved to St Andrews and on the first day I met Lorena Tussis, a girl who has had to put up with me ever since. We have been dating for almost a year now.

In May last year Lorena lost her sister, Sofia... an intelligent, beautiful and immensely popular person with everyone she crossed paths with. I was fortunate to meet Sofia a few months before she died, and she was happy, smiling, and full of interesting opinion. This is how I, and no doubt many others, will remember her.

At her University in Maastricht, where she was in her final year of study, a scholarship has been set up in her name. This scholarship will help a select student who would otherwise not be able to attend University, to meet with Sofia's parents and have the chance to pursue their goals. It is something that Sofia would have been proud of.

Running the Half-Marathon is not so much about me but rather the Sunday-League football team that I play for. Together with Luke Monro, Alex Clarke, Pete Hoggan, Cameron Dryburgh, Jeremy Hipps, James Gordon and Leo Bargery, I hope to raise as much as possible for this worthy cause. We have partnered with a fantastic charity in Dundee, "Remembering Yusef Abubaker", who have kindly agreed to help us with our project.

Sport can be a great way through which to speak and, as a Liverpool fan, I wish I could have told Sofia just one thing-

"You'll never walk alone"

Come May 27th, we hopefully won't be walking, but instead jogging at a leisurely pace, for her scholarship.

About the charity

The Yusef Abubaker Memorial Trust, established following the sudden cardiac death of our son Yusef, aims to enhance education, alleviate poverty, fund medical treatment, fund clean drinking water projects and help enhance sport in the community. Help us to help others in memory of Yusef.
