'Friends' supports the first children's hospice in Belarus. It provides care at home, in-patient care and respite care for children with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses and their families. Their services are free. Friends is run by unpaid volunteers and our chairwoman speaks Russian fluently and has a place on the hospice's advisory board.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit this page.

We have created it to help Belarusian children hospice.

The Belarusian Children Hospice provides palliative care for children and young adults from birth to 24 years who have a life-threatening or life-limiting illness.  It is based in Minsk, Belarus, and was the first children hospice in the whole area of the former Soviet Union.

All the hospice's services, medicines and nursing supplies are provided free of charge.

67% of the hospice's young patients suffer from cancer and many others suffer from immune deficiency and life-limiting genetic disorders.  The hospice is now caring for babies born to mothers who were girls or in-utero at the time of the Chernobyl disaster.  These babies have very deformed internal organs, are intellectually impaired and often a life expectancy of just 2 or 3 years.  Following the Chernobyl nuclear accident in Ukraine in 1986, 24% of Belarus' territory was irradiated.

BCH does not receive any state funding and relies on grants and voluntary contributions.

So, our help is needed! I would like to ask you to support the hospice by donating whatever you can afford. Together we can do it!

PS: Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
