My story

 

Hello everyone,

I will be travelling to Nicaragua in 2010 to work with a team carrying out research on the Masaya Volcano. We will be researching how and why this volcano effects it’s local environment. 

At the field site of the Masaya Volcano, we will carry out work in the surrounding areas to help determine the effects volcanic activity has on plant, animal, and human communities.  We will use GPS technology, monitor volcanic gases, and deploy devices to collect geoelectric activity and gravity.  We will also take soil and water samples, and conduct a number of ecological surveys.

Earthwatch are currently developing new ways of predicting the impact of future volcanic events on the local population, and hope to enable the local people to be better prepared for the next volcanic crisis.
