Story

I first met Stuart at Worfiled Cricket Club some 30 years ago, when I was 11 years old. I was new to the club, having enrolled for junior coaching. Stuart was, in many ways born into the club, as his dad Roy was a player, captain and general club stalwart. Over the years Stuart was a player, a captain, a coach, a groundsman and a chairman. He gave so much of his time for the benefit of others, a true gent, one of life's real good guys.

In October 2011, Stuart was taken ill and was soon diagnosed with Acute Lynphoblastic Leukemia. Stuart underwent extremely stong doses of chemotherapy over following months, in preparation for a bone marrow transplant, which was his only hope of a cure. A match was found from a donor in the USA and everything looked hopefull.

You think that in this modern age, that eveyone can be saved, but alas no. Shortly after the transplant the cancer came back, and Stuart lost his fight in June 2012, just 43 years old.

In tribute to Stuart I am cycling from Aberdovey on the Welsh coast (one of his favourite places), back to Worfield. I am aiming to raise £1000 to help the fight against blood cancers.
