UPDATE

Thank you all for your amazingly generous donations and support for the Tomato Run.  Collectively, you have given over £3,500 to the Stroke Association.  That is truly impressive.

Well, I'm pleased to be able to say that I am now the fastest tomato in the world over 13.1 miles, with a time of 1h 34mins 37secs.  I beat the previous best time by 18 seconds.  It was hot in that suit, but the crowd spurred me on.  Towards the end, I kept hearing people cheering on a strawberry and I had a nasty feeling that I was being stalked by a more popular fruit that was about to overtake me.  Imagine my relief when I realised that it was just a case of mistaken identity - my tomato had become rather waterlogged and mis-shapen and it was in fact me that they were egging on.

-----

I love running and I love cycling.  I joined CamNutra as CEO 9 months ago.  Our patented bio-available lycopene is a capsule called Ateronon.  It's derived from tomatoes and exciting clinical research carried out at Cambridge indicates that it improves heart health.  So to draw yet more attention to our amazing product, our marketing team dreamt up the bright idea for someone to run a half marathon dressed as a tomato.  When I scoffed at the fastest fruit world record time of 1h 45mins, they called my bluff.   I started training.  But I hadn't allowed for - (who could have known?) - the Banana from Brighton, who, midway through my carefully planned training programme, clocked a 1.34.  That's a fast fruit.  So the goalposts have moved, and I'm now trying to get somewhere near 1.34.  It's going to be difficult, especially in my cumbersome red suit (which is not nearly as streamlined as a 'nana), but I'm going to try, even if I fail spectacularly.  And while doing it, I want to raise as much money as possible for the Stroke Association, which I know to do excellent work.  So if you'd like to sponsor me, please do.
