Sailing across the Atlantic!

When our friends David and Joanna Wallbank told us that they were taking two years out to sail the world with their 2 young children (Eddie 6 and Suzannah 4) there was great excitement talking about their route and the adventures they would have as a family. So when the opportunity arose to be part of the small crew helping them to sail the Atlantic I jumped at the chance.  Having only experienced a few weeks of mediterranean and coastal sailing it was an trip not be missed.

I meet the boat in Lanzarote and will leave on the 14th November heading west and arriving in Anitgua between the 1st and 4th of December. If you are interested in tracking our progress you can visit the blog here

The adventure by numbers:

55 -   The size of the yacht in feet

3000 - ~Miles from Lanzarote to Antigua

18 - Days it will take to cross (wind permitting)

71 - My Dad's age on the 25th November (Yes my Dad will be on the boat with me!)

3 - Number of  night watch hours each night

7 - Number of people on board (5 adults, 2 children)

23 - Nights away from my wife, Sere and our 2 children Alexander and Sophia!

As I have had the opportunity to take part in a 'once in a life time experience' I wanted to give something back by raising money for charity.  I liked this charity because it gives the opportunity for very sick children to enjoy sailing and the all the benefits that brings.

The Ellen MacArthur Trust takes young people aged between 8-18 sailing to help them regain their confidence, on their way to recovery from cancer, leukaemia and other serious illness. More information about the charity can be found at www.ellenmacarthurtrust.org

We welcome all contributions no matter how small as every little bit helps.
