Update: I had a great run today in very favourable conditions posting an official time of 2:54:54, easily a personal best. That was good for 709th and 149th 40-44 man.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I was able to get an entry for the London Marathon as a "good for age" runner (which sounds a rather backhanded compliment to me!) and decided to raise money for a small charity called 500 Miles, who help disabled Malawians a very short distance from where I worked in Lilongwe from 1990-93. While Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world and most of its citizens face a struggle to make their way in life, disabled people face even greater barriers. In 1993 I raised money with a sponsored bike ride (http://www.timcooke.com/Malawi/Diary/index.htm) which gave me a small insight into disability issues in the country. When I found out about 500 Miles this year I was convinced that their work providing Malawians with a properly fitted prosthesis will make a huge difference to their chances of success.

This will be my fifth marathon, but the first one where I'll be looking for sponsorship, and supporting 500 Miles seemed perfect. I've been pounding the streets, forest paths and canal towpaths of Inverness for over 500 miles now in training and every mile reminds me how grateful I am for having four healthy limbs. You can check out how my training is going on my blog at http://www.timrunning2.blogspot.com/.
