Here we go. I've decided, along with my good friend Rick Comber, to tackle the Windsor Half Marathon on the 26th September 2010. Why I am doing it? Well, there are two reasons. First, I wanted to give myself a goal to aim for. I can barely run/jog/trot 2 miles so training to be able to run 13 miles is a big challenge. I'm not blessed with a gazelle-like physique, I'm more solid-Volvo! So I, along with my training buddy Rick, will have to be desciplined and dedicated - and cut down on the good food.

The second reason, which is the most import, is that I want to raise money for charity. Not only will this give me the incentive to keep going on the day and in training, but I have never really raised money for a charity before and given my experiences its about time I did!

There are two causes that I wish to support. One is for charities that support the research into, and the care of those suffering from, cancer and cancer-related illnesses. The other is for charities that provide research into, and the care of those suffering from, dementia. Why these two complete life-changing illnesses? Well, my mother passed away in 2003 after a long battle with cancer and I unfortunately know of friends and family who have also suffered. My wife's mother suffered from Alzheimers and again, I know of friends who have had first hand experience of caring for loved ones with dementia.

As I can only raise money for one charity on JustGiving, I have had to make a choice, and you can to!
