Temple Garden Foundation works in partnership with local communities in rural Cambodia to promote sustainable development for those living in poverty. The Foundation selects projects where livelihoods can be improved significantly through simple community initiatives. Programmes include water and sanitation, basic road/bridge infrastructure, healthcare and child and adult education.

Story

It is easy to forget that Asia is not all about Singapore, Hong Kong, wealth creation, fast economic growth rates which benefit all. SE Asia is the poorest region of the world after sub-Saharan Africa. This abject poverty coupled with ignorance often forces parents to neglect or even sell their own children, in order to sustain the rest of the family.

Homeland MPK In Cambodia (www.mpkhomeland.org) is a small 100% local charity in NW Cambodia which rescues children which have been sold into the sex trade in neighbouring Thailand, and offers them a home, a family and eventually the skills neccessary to be self-sufficient.

Homeland has been supported for the past 4 years by Comic Relief, but now that their funding has matured, they are struggling to sustain their activities. Having spent time with Mao Lang the 'mother' to the 50 children at Homeland in Battambang, I feel passionately about doing what I can to assist her in keeping up her humbling work.

As Homeland is a 100% local Cambodian charity it has no foreign overheads, meaning that all of your contributions will go to Cambodia (less bank charges and Just Giving costs). However this also means that it is not a UK registered charity and thus is not illegible for Just Giving. I sincerely thank my friend Charlotte Marson, the founder and chairperson of an equally worthwhile NGO in Cambodia, Temple Garden Foundation for agreeing to help channel your contributions to Homeland via TGF.

Many thanks,
Tim
