Story

Did my longest swim today. 4km in 1hr 22mins.

Please sponsor me and support Save The Children’s Campaign – No Child Born To Die.

In February, 2010, I thought I’d give triathlon a go. Rather than starting sensibly and gently (like any normal person) I dived in at the deep end with an IronMan (2.5 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26 mile run). How hard could it be, eh?

When I started this, I couldn’t swim front crawl for 4 lengths without stopping for a breather, I’d never had a road bike, and hadn’t ever run more than 7 miles...

But...Fast forward one year (and a bit).

I’ve read a number of books, taken advice from anyone willing and kind enough to give it, and put in the training (I've kept a diary of my training for posterity). One thing that’s spurred me on is thinking about the kids' lives we could improve with every £ raised for Save The Children.

Around the world, 8 million children under five die every year from illnesses we know how to treat or prevent, such as diarrhoea and pneumonia.

In the UK, 3.9 million children live in poverty. Many don't have access to warm winter clothing, nutritious food, decent housing or education.

Save The Children’s "Born To" campaign is working hard to improve the lives of the world’s poorest and most deprived children, but there will always be more to do. Here are just a few ways your donations will make kids’ lives better:

- £15 can provide a baby in the UK with a bottle and steriliser kit

- £25 can pay for enough medicine to treat 82(!) kids suffering from pneumonia – the biggest killer of children under 5

- £50 can buy blankets to keep 25 babies warm.

I’ve been lucky enough to watch my children grow, learn, be happy and look forward to their futures. With a bit of help from you, kids less fortunate can do the same.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Save The Children gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now!
