Story

April 24th Update: Race time 4h 11m - All the hard training's paid off!

Well that's one 4 hr marathon over. Now my beautiful, georgous Mandy has got to do her major marathon and bring the love of our lives into the world. I'm so excited. What a sterling effort my family and friends and colleagues have done on raising OVER TWO THOUSAND pounds for AMREF! Thankyou s v v much.

March update: Training's going well. I'm probably running about 35-40miles a week and supplementing that with some grueling bicycle rides back and forth from home to work. My best achievement so far has been from once having to walk up the last part of Barrington hill, to now being able to do 12 acsents and 12 decsents whilst keeping a good pace - and not being to stiff the following day.

The biggest challenge's been rasing the money, but as you can see we're almost there. I say "we" because without all the generous people who've donated there would be very little to shout about. In fact, we've loads to celebrate and shout about. So thank you, ALL, very much.

A big huge thank you to all these generous people for donating so far (I hope I’ve not left anyone out):

John Clements, Craig and Jo Coghill, Claire Shaw, Juliet Eve, Kerry Colclough, Richard and Julia Pyper, Alex Mabey, Melanie and Mark Scott, Graham Dawson, Sharyn Hopkins, Bob Seago, Marti and Joe Hall, Auntie Sarah Witney, Auntie Estina, Nanny Edna, Mum, Carole and Andy (and all their overly generous friends and colleagues), Sarah and Steven Graham, Craig Thomas, Rachael (and Baz) Murray, Jenny Hoang, Stephanie Morley and Tom Jack, Gwen Quigley, Hannah and Mike Scott, Cassie (sister and auntie) Robinson, Lal and Allan Grahame, Ben /Lee, Bernadette Mcginley, Lynn Saunders, Matthew Smith, Steve and Kate Holden, Yvette Eady, Philipa Vaughan-Williams, Helen Brown, Jon and Elise Fielder, Val and Roy Robinson, Jo and Dave Turner, Sebastian and Angeline Stanley, Phillip Irving, Dangerous Dave Desouza (and the lovely Laurie),  Ewan and Jessie, Laura Monks, Charlie Thorpe, Kathryn Hehir, Jessica Mattingly, Jo Owers, B Stoneman, Laura Johnson, Kate Gladders, Paxti Urquiza, Val and Rob Matthews, Sharon Warmbold, Kerry Bailey, R Salmon, J Angel, C Smalley, all the generous people at Thongsley Fields and King’s Hedges Primary Schools

The reason, I hope, you'll be checking out this web space is that you've seen - or heard - me puffing and panting my way to and from Cambridge and Haslingfield in practise for this year's London Marathon on Sunday 25 April, 2010.

About AMREF:

I became personally moved by AMREF’s Katine project which was brought to my attention through The Guardian newspaper a few years ago. So, I decided to run for AMREF because of my total admiration and belief in this sub-Sahara African-development charity, and felt I wanted to do something more than just a monthly subscription. AMREF provides targeted health care and associated education and sanitation solutions and is pivotal in empowering those in poverty to build sustainable communities and futures, with dignity and pride. The project's successes and outcomes, which I frequently access through Katine's website, are, to say the least, heart rendering.
