“There’s a first time for everything”, Where have I heard that before? When asked “If I like a challenge” of course I’m going to say “Yes”........ not realising it involves climbing 13,604 feet in Nepal, averaging 6 hrs trekking a day. Right!
Challenge 2 - Fundraising, another first!
Through the generosity of people ‘Deafway’ have been able to build a school and Hostel in Nepal for 167 deaf children, (previous to this all they had was a back room with 12 children) They are now able to employ a deaf teacher to travel (by bike) to eight regions of Nepal teaching Nepal sign language and basic literacy and numeracy to children and adults. This has created independence for all deaf people allowing barriers to be removed.
In the UK, areas of the residential services for deaf people have been updated, a recently opened new youth centre, a new minibus and more recently a theatre production of ‘Shadow’ was staged at theatres across Lancashire featuring deaf actors.
Why should you make a donation? – ‘Deafways’ excellent work needs your funding to allow them to continue in their goal to achieve equality of access and opportunity for deaf people in every area of life. I have personally donated £300 to this cause but still need to raise £2900 so your help and support is really needed.
