SPACE4AUTISM is a place for people to meet in the same position as themselves, to share experiences and knowledge. We run social clubs for children, young people and adults with ASC and offer lots of advice and support to parent/carers. We also have our own cafe which is also open to the public

Story

Jack our fourth child was born on the 13th unlucky for some but not us he was a perfect, healthy baby boy to add to our brood and we couldnt have been happier! He reached all his development milestones at the appropriate ages and apart from being sickly he was fine. Until the bomshell was dropped on us when he reached 3 and half!! We knew something wasnt quite right as he didnt speak very much and after endless appoinments and tests he was given the diagnosis "Autism"!! I cried endlessly and wondered what had caused it? Is it something I/we had done? What did our childs future hold? How would we even cope? Feeling very confused I decided to read every book I could get my hands on and research every website available. Armed with the knowledge we had no choice but to deal with  this condition that had effected his brain development (or disorder as it was called then) and take each day as it came. Many of our family members were in denial, "hes just a normal little boy, theres nothing wrong with him, what do doctors no about him anyway"!! Probably lack of knowledge on their behalf like so many other people and not knowing what else to say to us but giving reassurance saying "he'll be ok you'll see or "dont worry he'll grow out of it". The hard truth was Jack wasnt going to grow out of it  but we made a firm decision that he would do everything our other children did and we would make sure we took every bit of help and support we could find. And thats when we discovered Space4autism!! Set up by Cheryl Simpson, John Mckellar and Kay Morrall who started meetings with a group of parents also with children on the autisic spectrum. A self funded club which has grown into an well established organisation run by experienced staff and volunteers. It offers help and support to all family members who are touched by this condition. It provides a safe, happy place where children are encouraged to make friends and develop their individual social abilities and confidence. This without a doubt has helped Jack over the years and this our way of saying thankyou.

Jack says "Space is cool and awesome and the best place ever"

What more can I say "please donate if you can it will definately make someone very happy" Thankyou :-)
