Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We are raising money for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Southampton’s Princess Anne Hospital which provided such fantastic care to our beautiful son, Toby David Hotspur Greeves during his short life. If this fund can contribute to helping even one other poorly or premature baby, we feel we will have given something back.
On August 5, 2014, Toby was delivered by emergency C-section due to a placental abruption. He was born eleven weeks premature and weighed just 720gms. Having initially been delivered at Poole St Mary’s Maternity Hospital, he was transferred to the NICU in Southampton to receive even more specialised care.
Despite having a tough start in life he made excellent initial progress, growing bigger and stronger every day. But at three weeks old Toby was affected by a severe case of Necrotising Enterocolitis (NEC). He underwent surgery, but tragically we lost our brave little fighter after just 23 wonderful days with him. He gave us such happiness and we miss him terribly.
We, Andy and Cathryn - Toby's parents, can’t thank the unit enough for their efforts and dedication in caring for Toby. As well as everything they did for our little one, they also showed Mum & Dad and our families incredible support and compassion in this most difficult time of our lives.
The NICU in Southampton is one of the largest neonatal units in the country, treating over 600 babies a year from Southampton as well as Poole & Bournemouth, Chichester, Dorchester, Basingstoke, the Isle of Wight, Salisbury, Winchester and the Channel Islands.
The money raised from our page will go directly towards the purchasing of Portable Saturation Monitors which are crucial on the unit for monitoring babies’ oxygen levels. They cost £370 each and the ward have told us they need more than the three they already have.
The support, the care and the facilities offered by this remarkable NICU helps save the lives of sick and premature babies every day. Please give generously to this unit in Toby’s memory to help it prosper and grow - to continue to make a life-changing difference to little ones and their parents. Thank you x
