On October 24 2009 Reading Roadrunners Toby Laver and Edward Dodwell will face the mighty Snowdon, the highest peak in Wales.
Toby will run the Snowdonia Marathon, whilst Ed will climb to the submit.
Why is this special?
The Snowdonia Marathon is regarded as one of the toughest in the UK, with punishing climbs and steep descents. This is quite fitting as this will be Toby’s 50 marathon. Toby, aged 33, has averaged a time of 3.05 hours across his 49 marathons. His total also includes 7 ultra marathons including the 89km Comrades Marathon, in South Africa.
Ed, who will be walking up Snowdon, was hit by a motorcycle travelling 30 mph whilst running on March 13 this year. After a gruelling 10 hour operation his pelvis has been rebuilt and he now has four metal plates and 28 pins in his hip. He can walk, though not pain free. He was recently a sub 35 minute 10k runner.
Who are they raising money for?
Toby and Ed’s good friend and fellow Roadrunner Steve Lee was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer two and a half years ago. Reading Roadrunner’s, led by Steve, have adopted the June Hancock Mesothelioma Research Fund as their 2009 charity.
Superman Steve has astounded doctors since his diagnosis, running three half marathons for the charity. The trio and the club aim to raise tens of thousands of pounds this year for this very worthy cause.
