Those of you know me will know what a fitness fanatic I am (not), always getting up at 5 in the morning and indulging in a quick 5 miles before work!
Yep- and now a bit of reality. I have 2 awesome little girls, both under two and a half, so all you parents out there will understand that I have about 4 minutes per day to myself!- So gym time is a no no!
A great friend of mine does a fantastic job in working for a charity called Norcas. These guys help thousands of young people and adults deal with their own and other peoples issues with drugs, alcohol and gambling. It affects people from all walks of life.
On 24th October 2010 I'll be running the Bupa Great South Run in Portsmouth as part of a team of 15 for NORCAS.
I think the furthest I have run in my life is about two miles, so the 10 miles is going to break me!. I have always wanted to do something like this, and although its not the 26 miles of a marathon, or even going to be done in record time, I wanted to help people less fortunate than myself and try to make a difference.
Times are tough, money is tight, and it seems like everyone is after money at the moment! But there are many many people less fortunate than you and I, and we- have the chance to make someones else's life that bit better.
Not wanting to pull on the old heart strings, but NORCAS have worked with children as young as the 5 to 9 age bracket and helped them overcome their own problems or deal with the effects of a family member's use of drugs or alcohol. That is no age at all and they shouldn't be exposed to such issues. If I can prevent or help another young child overcome issues with drugs or alcohol, then I will help as best I can.
So dig deep people and help me make a difference.
Cheers
Tom
