For a long time my main passion has been to coach football to a wide range of people. I have been part of the Chelsea Disability setup for nearly 3 years and in the process have gained numerous coaching qualifications. I have gained so much experience working with people who have disability, learning difficulties or special needs.
I have decided to take the next step to go and help underprivileged people gain an opportunity of a footballing session which they do not have everyday resources for.
In January 2012 I am flying to Peru to coach football and other team sports to children and young adults living in extreme poverty. I will be supporting and working with a local non-profit making charity called Project Peru, who run a childrens home and small community base within a shanty town just outside of Lima. Their aim is to provide food, clothing, medical supplies, accommodation and education, but desperately need a young motivated person to take the lead in promoting team sport and healthy exercise. I am hoping to make a big difference to as many of these people as possible and in order to fulfil this goal I need to raise £1200 to support the charity. My aim is to provide fun, football and sporting knowledge for up to 60 disadvantaged people a day. Any amount will make a big difference to the children in the refuge and families of the community. While i am there i will be living at Project Peru's children refuge where there are 40 children and young adults resident. Project Peru have constructed a sports area there and they enjoy football, basket ball and volleyball, playing football in a 'children's home league'. I will also be helping with sports in a therapeutic centre in a nearby shanty town where PP is very active with outreach projects.
