Story
For the third year running I am doing Byte Night. This is a great charity event, raising money for some of the most vulnerable people in the UK and at the same time making you grateful for what you have.
Last year, the KPMG team were dressed as penguins. This year we will be dressed as pigs. As well as raising money, the event is a really good team-building exercise - get in contact if you are interested in taking part!
I would really appreciate any money you are able to donate. It provides some really important services, such as accommodation for homeless youths, but also it helps provide the skills and resource they need to be able to support themselves. Here are some stats from 2011 to show why people really need support:
- 66% of young people supported by homelessness organisations became homeless because of relationship breakdowns with family, friends or a partner.
- Young homeless people are twice as likely to die as people their age who have homes.
- Around a third are dependent on alcohol and almost 40% dependent on drugs.
- 30% self-harm.
- 11% have entered into a sexual partnership in order to get a bed for the night – for young homeless women, it's 14%.
- A quarter of young homeless women have
engaged in sex work in order to fund accommodation or in the hope of getting a
bed for the night.
