My brother Tom died on 9th June 2009 age 54. He had emphysema having smoked since the age of 9. He was born, lived and died in Newcastle upon Tyne and was a true Geordie. Sadly I was seperated from Tom as a child when my family split up and he was adopted. I only managed to find him two years ago after over forty years apart and am grateful for the short but precious time we had together.
Tom adored children especially his neice Emma who brought him great happiness in his final years. We hope to raise some money in his memory to help children.
The Children's Foundation aims to improve the health and well being of children and young people in the north-east of England. One of its many worthwhile aims is to support programmes educating young people of the risks of smoking. The charity is also supporting the fantastic new Great North Children's Hospital in Newcastle with state of the art facilities. We saw this in progress when visiting Tom at the Royal Victoria Infirmary.
