Vancouver to Mexico by Cycle · 6 September 2012

Our vision is that patients with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses in our area can choose how and where they want to be cared for towards the end of life. We provide 24/7 responsive Hospice at Home care and support for all the family during the illness and through bereavement.

Story

Thanks for logging onto my page.

This ride is dedicated to a very dear friend from my school days who sucumbed rather young to throat cancer. He devoted his life to others by working  tirelessly amongst the split communities in Northern Ireland. He and his family benefited enormously from their local hospice.

I shall be pedalling 1,855 miles from Vancouver to the Mexican border just beyond San Diego. That's twice the distance from Land's End to John O'Groats ('LEJOG'), a trip that seemed a very long way when I rode it two years ago.

It's a D-I-Y trip,using our own bikes. Eight of us will cycle 70-100 miles daily from motel to motel, with a pick-up truck taking our luggage and carrying some spare equipment.

To raise money for my local charity Ian Rennie Grove House Hospice and to receive your support in doing so is the glue that will hold it all together. Naturally I am paying all the costs of the trip, so that all contributions go direct to the charity. They offer a professional, compassionate and caring service to sufferers and their families totally free of charge. As we age and live longer demand for their service increases. Over £3.5 million needs to be raised each year from donations. That's tough in the current environment. So thank you for reading this page and for your generosity.

My blog at http://vancomex.blogspot.co.uk/ has lots more information about the  the route and photos. I will be updating it as we progress.

I intend to tweet occasionally at @tichlet, if only to boost my own ego!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.
