Nightingale House offers a wide range of facilities to local people and their families living with life-limiting illness. Patients come from Wrexham, Flintshire, Denbighshire and outlying areas. In 2026 it will cost £5,662,680 million to run the Hospice - this equates to nearly £15,514 per day.

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I'm taking on an unusual challenge to raise money for the brilliant cause of Nightingale House; I am hoping to sail singlehandedly around the Atlantic on a small boat (9 metres).

My route for the first leg took me from Caernarfon North Wales in October, across the Irish Sea to Wexford. I then crossed the infamous Bay of Biscay to Spain, and having been battered by a force 9 gale, learned why October wasn't the time to attempt this passage! Leg 2 was onwards to Portugal, Madeira, then Tenerife and Gran Canaria on the Canary Islands for Christmas & New Year. A change of plan took me 850 miles south to the Cape Verde islands, where  I stayed for a couple of weeks. I then made the first Atlantic crossing; 2100 miles which I completed in 19 days to the hour.

The most recent stage was the Caribbean to the Azores leg, around 2400 miles of hard sailing in the challenging North Atlantic. This took just under 22 days, and apart from Biscay was probably the most dangerous voyage so far; at one point I was around 30 miles from the ice boundary!

I have been sailing hard over the last few months, and so far have covered about 8300 miles. I still have around 1400 to go before I make it home again, so please please please dig deep, and donate what you can in support of this worthwhile charity.

Best wishes,

Tom
