Story

*Many thanks to all who donated.. I completed the course in 5'40". This was slower than I anticipated... but, as an island boy (from a FLAT island) the hills absolutely killed my legs ! This was one of the toughest physical things I've ever done.. and truly, your donations helped me push through the very tough last four miles of the course... I'll be back next year !!*

On May 16th, I'll be joining 4500 other somewhat unbalanced indidivuals (aka cyclists) For Etape Caledonia. We'll be covering 81 miles up and down hills and along lochs in highland Scotland, with over 6,000 feet of climbing, and (of course) the unpredictable Scottish weather to contend with.

In Cayman I organise the Reefathlon cycling events, and as part of that event we donate funds on behalf of every participant to the Cayman Islands Cancer Society, an organisation which does great work here in Cayman.

I'm covering all my costs in taking part personally as my contribution, so 100% of donations go straight to MacMillan Cancer Support, which has, as a mission, to improve the lives of people affected by Cancer. They provide practical, medical and financial support and push for better cancer care.

Cancer charities are a very personal cause for me due to the impact it has had on people close to me and my family, but Cancer affects us all. Our families, our friends, those stricken by the disease and those who care for them.

Living on a flat island where a cold cycling day means the windchill drops to the low 20s centigrade, I'm beginning to wonder if I've bitten off more than I can chew, but hey, it's for a good cause.... and my motivation on the day will come from thinking of family and friends who have fought Cancer. Some won, some lost, all are changed by it.
