If you have got to this page by now you should know what I'm doing but as a recap:
The Marathon des Sables (MDS) (Marathon of the Sands) is a six-day, 254 km (156 mile) ultramarathon, which is the equivalent to six regular marathons. The longest single stage is 91 km (55 miles) long.
This multiday event is held every year in the southern Moroccan desert. It is considered the toughest footrace on Earth.I am running on behalf of two charities. Both close to my heart.
Working closely with the retail industry I know how tough it can be. The industry itself is extremely competitive for independent retailers right now with internal and external pressures from left, right and centre. Competitors, rising costs and changing consumer tastes make for a really hard time and Caravan are there to help.
Caravan, trading name of the National Grocers' Benevolent Fund, is the charity for people in the grocery, provisions, greengrocers and off-licence industries In the last year we have assisted more than 1,900 beneficiaries and their dependants from warehousemen and delivery drivers to sales representatives and checkout operators who, for a variety of different reasons, are struggling to cope.
