Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Four years ago I vowed that Football For Cancer 2019 would be my last, the legs were gone and so was my love for playing football… roll on to 2022 and I was asked by my best mate Mike Hart to play in this years tournament for his team that is in the memory of his late nan Elizabeth Hart. Without hesitation I said yes to the honour of representing a great lady that I have fond memories of while growing up with Mike. She was also the mother of Cliff who was my football coach at all youth levels and I have great memories of going round Queen Liz’s after a match for tea and copious amounts of biscuits on a Sunday afternoon. My football skills aren’t up to scratch like they use to be but I’m going to use the next three months to get as fit as possible so I can put a shift in and cover every blade of grass during our matches in order to honour such an amazing lady and family that are the Harts.
Friends Fighting Cancer raise money to help families and individuals that are battling cancer that find themselves in financial difficulties due to the burden of fighting cancer. 100% of money raised through JustGiving will go to someone who applies for a grant that need money in order to pay bills, buy a new fridge if theirs is broken, fix a boiler or simply to have the opportunity to have one last holiday with loved ones as a few examples. I know times are difficult regarding tight budgets due to the cost of living but imagine how much more difficult it is for people going through chemo or not well enough and are unable to work. Therefore I ask you to donate whatever you can no matter how big or small, every penny is appreciated and will greatly help those that are in need.
I will be playing a total of three matches in this year’s tournament and have already committed to training with the team every Tuesday night as well as playing 5a-side football with my peers on a Wednesday. I’m also going to be alcohol free for 92 days (a day for each year Queen Liz lived to) and if you know me then you know I like a drink as much as the next man so this will probably be my biggest challenge! I will also be doing 92 kick-ups a day during the month of March. My last challenge will be my ‘Window Cleaners Walk’ where I will walk 9.2 miles around Hayling Island with my ladder and bucket during St. George’s Day on Sunday 23rd April. I hope these challenges will inspire you to make a donation to this fantastic charity.
I have lost well over a dozen or so lovely customers over last few years to this horrible disease as well as have a couple of people I know very well that are battling cancer right now. So as well as representing Elizabeth Hart this is also in honour of them too.
Thank you so much for reading all this and thank you in advance for your kind donations. Let’s do this!!
