2010 Great Scottish Run Half Marathon · 5 September 2010 ·

We provide expert care and support for people across Ayrshire living with life-shortening illness, and those closest to them. Our aim is to help people live well, with comfort, dignity and choice. Every person and moment matters - and with our community’s support, we’re here when it matters most.

Story

My Dad, Gerald, died of cancer 5 years ago in June at home in Largs.  I started running about a year after he died and the GSR half marathon has been a personal goal of mine for the last 3 years but I've never managed to find the time to train until this year.

Shortly before my Dad died, he had a few days respite in the Ayrshire Hospice and absolutely loved the huge whirlpool bath that they have. They do such a fantastic job in there and it costs more than £10 per minute just to keep the doors open, most of which is raised through charity.

I'm asking you to take just a minute out of your day and donate a tenner. Please, get your card out now, just £10, or more if you like, will go a long way to making the last days, hours and minutes of someone else's life a wee bit more peaceful.

Largs is a beautiful place to run around with such lovely views and scenery and every time I run up that hill past the golf course I think of my Dad and his love for the game of golf, so this race is for him because he's the reason I make it to the top every time! x
