Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

As a team we are cycling 300 miles in 3 days to raise money and increase our own fitness. The team members come from different backgrounds and locations with people living in Woking and Bournemouth. All the participants are funding the event themselves as well as the support staff so no money is taken from our donations, this is not a corporate event. Many of the cyclists have raised money before cycling London to Paris, 500 miles in 5 days across Europe, and this year completing the 3 Peak Challenge.

The Joe Glover Trust is a Hampshire based children’s cancer charity working with families and specialist children’s cancer units across Hampshire, Dorset, Wiltshire, West Sussex, the Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands.

The Trust was formed in 2007 following the death of eight-year-old Joe Glover to Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.

What they do

All children living in Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Dorset, Wiltshire and West Sussex will receive treatment at the specialist children’s cancer unit, the Piam Brown ward, at Southampton General Hospital. They will also receive treatment at their local shared care hospital such as Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester, Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth or Basingstoke, Poole, Salisbury Hospitals.

When a child is diagnosed, many parents are forced to give up work or take unpaid leave to take care of their sick child but, of course, the mortgage, council tax and other household bills don’t go away.

Whether it is helping with travel costs to hospital, helping with bills or sadly funeral costs, we want to help ease the financial burden faced at this very difficult time.

They help in several ways:

Their Grants

Our charity has been supporting children and their families at Piam Brown Ward since 2007 and has helped hundreds of families since then. Families of children can apply to The Joe Glover Trust for a financial grant.

To make sure your money gets to the families who need it, we work in conjunction with the Social Workers on the Piam Brown Ward. They provide the vital link between the families and the charity. The family’s needs are assessed and validated and a grant application made to the Trust.

During 2012, 83% of the grants we awarded were for help with household bills and travel expenses to families really struggling financially. Sadly 9 of these children lost their battle with cancer.
