Story

Running for Mum.

This year I'm running the London Marathon.

If I'd have told you that six months ago no one, including me, would have believed it. However these past few months I've decided to change my life for good. Not just for me, but for my family. So I've lost four stone, Quit booze and nearly caused the collapse of the Bulmers Brewery. I've also started running on a regular basis and recently completed the Coventry half marathon. When I crossed the finish line in a half decent time and saw my family waiting for me and can honestly say I've never had a prouder moment. Then I thought of what Mum would have said as she only ever saw me win the egg and spoon at school (and I'm sure that was fixed).

The most important thing to me is my family and I've only recently realised how important that as after the birth of my little girl Phoebe. With that in mind I've decided to go for the big one and run for my Mum.

Kathy Fisher died in November 1999 and there isn't a day goes by I don't think about her and want to make her proud of the things I do. She died of cancer and the last few months of her life were spent in a hospice. It was during that time I came to meet and be part of a very special family of carers who made those last weeks all the more bearable and it's a debt I know I can never repay.

When I was asked to run for St. Richards I was delighted to have the chance to raise money and awareness for something so special that touches so many people's lives.

If you can give a little towards my run in April I would be very grateful. I'd like to make a big difference in a way that I'd never thought I'd be able to do.

So that's why this year I'm running for Mum.

Many thanks

Tony
