I have chosen to raise money for the Sheffield Kidney Research Foundation. 4 ½ years ago my wife Kathryn was diagnosed with end stage kidney disease in mid pregnancy. With fantastic specialist care from both the maternity and renal units in Sheffield, Kathryn’s pregnancy was progressed sufficiently for the successful arrival of our son Dylan. Kathryn subsequently underwent a successful kidney transplant with me as the donor. Over this whole period we have built up a relationship with the physicians, surgeons and other key professionals at the Northern General and have learned about important research to improve the understanding and treatment of kidney disease taking place in conjunction with the University of Sheffield.
I have been running for the last couple of years as part of general fitness but the Bradford half Marathon will be a first for me.
I have put the training in and am confident that I will cross the finishing line, although I am making no predictions about what time of day that might be!
