ASCEND is based in South Oxhey, nationally recognised as an area with social deprivation issues. Award winning staff combine compassion with guidance, courses and basic skills; giving disadvantaged adults of all ages the self-esteem and confidence to increase their life chances. As a result, many find paid or voluntary work.

Story

UPDATE: It was a lovely day in Chester and I did get round, albeit it felt really tough the whole way.  From the photos it is fairly obvious which are before, at 12 miles and at the end (see lower down).  Thanks must go to the Rob who, despite next to no training, dragged me round through the "hard miles".  We were delighted with our time - 2 hours, 7 mins and 44 secs.

Thank you for all your kind donations.  Raising money for our good causes really helped push us on.  We were proud to be doing a little talking as we were going round, things such as distance to next water stop, last mile time etc.  However we were more than a little put off when, at 5 miles, 2 girls in "Kate's Hen do half marathon" t-shits were chatting about wedding dresses, venues and cars.  That's just showing off.

Thanks again for your donations.  A very sore and slightly sunburnt Tony

Many months ago I, somewhat foolishly, signed up to run the Chester half marathon.

I would really appreciate it if you would consider sponsoring me, The 2 Registered Charities I have chosen are Watford Sheltered Workshop (where my father is a volunteer) and 20% of funds raised will be for ASCEND. Watford Sheltered Workshop provides disabled people with work experience, training (not just job related, also ‘life skills’ like literacy, numeracy, IT and cookery) and supported employment. Doing real work for commercial customers gives the disabled people confidence and self-esteem that they would struggle to achieve without such an opportunity. It really helps improve the quality of their lives. ASCEND's award winning staff combine compassion with guidance, courses and basic skills; giving disadvantaged adults of all ages the self-esteem and confidence to increase their life chances. As a result, many find paid or voluntary work.
