My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Thank you so much to everybody that has kindly donated so far!! I couldn't possibly thank you all in person, but it means a huge amount to both me, Stu & family... and I can promise you it will make a difference.

We are now however only 2/3 of our way to our target, so I would ask any of you that can... to please dig deep and help us reach our final figure.

Please see my updated photographs, which include Stu in his borrowed standing frame (it is this we hope to purchase for the hospital) and a number of our team 'in training'!! Thanks once again

As you all know, my oldest and closest friend Stuart Langley (‘Stu’) was profoundly injured in a cycling accident in March 2009. He survived and against all odds has continued to make a positive, if incredibly slow, recovery.

Last year my wife Katy and a team of friends, took part in a charity cycle ride around Ireland raising a sizeable figure for the hospital that Stuart now resides in. Not to be outdone and wanting to also make some kind of contribution (…difficult when we all feel so useless in helping directly), this year I plan (as part of a team) to take on another challenge that we hope will raise some money (and show support for both Stuart and his family). This year we are hoping to raise enough money to purchase a standing frame for the phisiotherapy unit at Queen Alexandra; that we are told Stu will directly benefit from.

Following our marriage in November 2009 (at which Stuart was supposed to be my best man), Katy & I took our honeymoon in The Atlas Mountains in Morroco staying in the shadow of Mount Toubkal. At night we looked up at the amazingly clear stars that twinkled around the mountain and vowed to one day return to climb to the summit. At 4,167 metres (13,671 ft) high, The Mountain of Jebel Toubkal is the highest peak in The Atlas Mountains and in turn North Africa. Our intention is to scale it in October 2011.

As I am sure any of you who know me will understand, I am no natural moutaineer and this will undoubtedly be a challenge of both body and mind! Please help me, help Stu and The Queen Alexandra by donating whatever you can... Many Thanks Spencer
