Beads of Courage UK provides the Beads of Courage programmes to oncology/haematology, cardiac, neo-natal, burns and other chronic conditions units in hospitals throuout the UK and Ireland. This programme offers help, enCOURAGEment and support to children and families during treatment.

Story

We are raising money to maintain the Beads of Courage Programme at Addenbrookes through the charity Be Child Cancer Aware.

Eilish was enrolled on the programme after her diagnosis in Oct 2013 of a Wilms Tumour. She collected the beads throughout her treatment, a different colour for each different medical intervention, Scan (lime), Blood Transfusion (red), Chemotherapy Infusion (white), Antibiotics (purple) and An overnight stay in Hospital (yellow), just to name a few.

After just 51 weeks on treatment Eilish passed away in Oct 2014 aged just 4.5years.  She collected over 1030 beads along her journey.

The beads are an amazing support not just for the child on treatment but their siblings, family & friends, they are an activity and certainly help the children get through a tough procedure, day or week.

Eilish's beads now help us raise awareness of the programme and of Childhood cancer. We raise funds to maintain the programme at Addenbrookes to help support many other children on treatment and their siblings & families.
