Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In July I will be cycling the "Etape du Tour" in France. This is a chance for non pro-cyclists to follow in the footsteps of cycling legends and attempt a stage of the Tour de France. This year's route is up two Alpine mountains - the Col du Galibier and the infamous Alpe d'Huez. These mountains are part of cycling folklore with numerous classic battles, victories and indeed collapses by the likes of Lance Armstrong, Pantani, Indurain, the Schlecks to name a few.
The distance and huge elevation makes this a huge challenge - especially for someone of my height (not built for climbing!). The training thus far has been seriously hard work - spin classes, club rides and recently a 9 hour ride in rain and wind sodden Yorkshire (described by many other hardy riders as the worst day of riding they'd ever done).
With such a green activity as cycling I was keen to try and raise some money for an environmental charity. CoolEarth are a charity with a growing profile as the concerns about global warming have escalating in recent years. They work directly in rainforests at risk of destruction by loggers/farmers and aim to protect these shrinking areas of mature forest.
So please be generous and help ease your carbon footprint and improve the Earth we leave to the next generation.
Thank you
Ian
