Hi Everybody, thanks for logging on,
On June 5th 2010 I am hoping to walk over 25 miles for the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge!!! I can hear you all say she must be mad and yes I think I am, but I volunteered and thought it would be great to say I had achieved something like this in my life. The walk itself includes a climb of over 5.5 thousand feet which is very scary as I don't like heights.
I have been training but I am slightly apprehensive, however with my bulk pack of blister plasters in my bag I am sure I will be OK. I am walking with my work colleagues and one of my very best friends Joey, so I hope we can give each other the strength to finish in approximately 12 hours (fingers crossed).
It was quite difficult to choose a charity which held a significant meaning to me, however one of the most traumatic events which happened in my life was the death of my younger brother when he was 11 years old, and myself being 16 at the time. The charity I have chosen is called PASIC - Parents Association for Seriously Ill Children. He was diagnosed with leukemia at 6 months and throughout his short life spent much of his time at the hospital. As I was only a child myself I really didn't understand the seriousness of his illness and to me he was just special. Obviously having a child with a serious illness took it's toll on the whole family, my older brother Andrew and especially my mum and dad.
PASIC was a relatively new charity at the time but it gave the children and parents some time out to put all their worries behind them and perhaps spend a day out somewhere.
Please feel free to click on the link to the website to find out more about this charity: www.pasic.org.uk.
I feel this is very important and I am so glad this charity continues today.
I would really appreciate anyone who would be kind enough to sponsor me, I will report back after the walk with lots of embarassing photos of my whole journey so you can laugh at my expense ;-)
Thanks for reading my story and please feel free to donate to this worthwhile charity.
