Story

Welcome!

It gives me great pleasure to write these words you are reading right now and as I write them I am in the initial phases of embarking on the Classic FM Charity Trek Nepal Challenge on 19th - 29th March 2010.  I have a goal of successfully completing this challenge to raise funds for a cause that is very dear to my heart; Classic FM's Music Makers charity.

Classic FM's Music Makers is a grant giving charity which raises money to fund music education and music therapy projects working with the most disadvantaged children and adults across the UK. For a further read of this amazing cause, please visit: http://www.classicfm.co.uk/about-classic-fm/charity/how-we-help/projects-we-fund/

It was January 2008 that I picked up my first violin as a mature adult having never read music or played a musical instrument before.  Music has given me the opportunity to grow my confidence and voice my words through the violin.  During each lesson you are totally focused and nothing else enters your mind; it is therapy and meditation combined!

From my own experiences I can see the many fantastic benefits to music and is a gift that is given to someone that will last a lifetime and is not prejudice against anybody’s abilities or disabilities and you truly see individuals flourish.

The physical challenge of the trek will test all 4’11’’ of my petite frame to its limits; it’s a challenge in itself to find a children’s size 1 comfortable walking shoe for myself :-)

The trek itself will involve between 6-9 hours walking per day along the Annapurna Range in the heart of Nepal covering different grounds underfoot to  take us through mountainside villages and thick rhododendron forest climbing to a height of 2800m.

For each step I take during training and on the trek, I shall be encouraged forward in the knowledge that some children and adults will get the opportunity for such things as music therapy from the money I raise for Music Makers in doing this trek and knowing the benefits those individuals will gain.

I would like to thank each of you for your financial support in sponsoring me in this demanding Classic FM Trek Nepal 2010 Charity Challenge in raising as much money as possible for Music Makers.

Thank you!

Tracey Poole
